Deputy General Secretary of the governing NPP, Nana Obiri Boahen says former President Mahama is in the business of deceiving his supporters into believing he is a formidable force ahead of the 2020 general elections.

This reaction from Nana Obiri Boahen follows comments by the NDC’s flagbearer that he and the party will reject the outcome of the polls should they be dissatisfied with the processes leading to the elections.

Mr. Mahama on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, while addressing party supporters during the NDC’s 28th Anniversary said they will head to the Supreme Court to challenge the outcome of the elections should they believe the election is flawed.

But Nana Obiri Boahen believes the former president’s comment is nothing but an attempt to hoodwink his supporters into believing he is a force to reckon with as far as the 2020 polls are concerned.

To him, the former president has no choice but to petition the Supreme Court if he is displeased with the outcome of the elections.

“The framers of the 1992 constitution made it abundantly clear that if you are dissatisfied with the results of the election you go to the Supreme Court. If you are dissatisfied you go to the High Court. So if the former president has said he will go to the Supreme Court, this is not news at all. This is what the constitution has said as far back as 1992. what the former president has said, it’s not news at all,” Nana Obiri Boahen said in an interview with Ghanatodayonline.com.

He added that “(His comment) was much ado about nothing. He was just only trying to, as it were, to hoodwinking his supporters to believe that he is a force to reckon with. He is not a force to be reckoned with. He is just hoodwinking them to believe that.”
