Former President John Dramani Mahama has met with ex-President John Rawlings as he finalizes discussions before he announces his running mate for the 2020 presidential election.

“I called on @officeofJJR, this morning in his office, to discuss a number of NDC-related issues. Very warm discussions as always,” Mr Mahama wrote on Facebook sighted by us.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer John Mahama have been criticised over the issue of who partners John Mahama as running mate into the 2020 general elections.

Many names, including daughter of Rawlings and Member of Parliament (MP) for Korle Klottey Dr Zanetor Rawlings, have popped up as possible running mates of Mr Mahama.

Analysts have suggested that Mr Mahama pick someone who can match Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who is running mate of President Akufo-Addo.

Earlier, rumours were rife that former long-serving Finance Minister Kwesi Botchwey had been settled on.

The ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) has criticised John Mahama for not picking a running mate for such a long time after he was elected flagbearer.

So far, prominent persons in the party appear to be leading the race for the running mate slot.

Sources reveal that seniors like Prof Kwesi Botchwey, Dr Kwabena Dufuor and Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman have had their names in high consideration for the vacant position after the former President was made to settle an Akan.

Others in contention are MP for Ahafo North, Eric Opoku, Alex Mould and former Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and Bulk Oil Supply and Storage (BOST) Kingsley Awuah-Darko.
