President-elect John Dramani Mahama has pledged to leverage his final term in office to solidify Ghana’s position as Africa’s “Black Star,” vowing to restore the nation’s prominence on the continent and the global stage.

Speaking at his private residence in Accra on Friday, December 13, Mahama made these remarks during a visit from the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Tong Defa. The ambassador delivered a congratulatory message from Chinese President Xi Jinping, reinforcing the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Expressing gratitude for the support and partnership he has enjoyed with China, Mahama assured the ambassador of his continued openness to collaboration.

“I am your son,” Mahama remarked, addressing Ambassador Defa. “You all have been very gracious with advice and good counsel. I have enjoyed working with you over the years, and nothing will change. My doors will always remain open to your leaders for consultation and support.”

The president-elect acknowledged the formidable task ahead, underscoring that the real challenge lies beyond the electoral victory.

“The easy part is over, which is the elections. Now the difficult part begins—bringing Ghana back to its rightful place and restoring it as the black star of Africa. I want to assure you that I will give it my very best,” Mahama affirmed.

He further emphasized that this term marks a pivotal moment in his political journey.

“This is my legacy term, a final opportunity to leave a lasting, positive impact before I transition into political retirement. My focus will be on making a good name for myself by working tirelessly to move Ghana to where it ought to be. You can count on me,” he concluded.

The visit and the dialogue highlighted Ghana’s ongoing commitment to nurturing its bilateral relationship with China. With Mahama’s assurances of collaboration and focus on transformational leadership, observers anticipate a renewed drive toward economic revitalization, strengthened international partnerships, and robust governance during his administration.
