Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako popularly, known as Chairman Wontumi has made a revelation about how he turned down an offer by former President Mahama to join the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The former President of the republic allegedly offered the invitation based on his admiration of Wontumi’s intellect and wealth.
“He (John Mahama) told me that young man, you are too intelligent, I want you to come to NDC to support me. I will never lie. Wontumi will never lie and he (John Mahama) knows. I even went there with the current Bosomtwi NPP Chairman,” the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party said on Good Evening Ghana, Thursday.
He however added that he declined the offer because of his background and deep roots in the NPP.
According to Chairman Wontumi, it would have been a very dangerous path for him to tread had he decided to join the NDC following the invitation from John Mahama.
“I said to him that based on where I come from, I see politics as a religion. The place I come from, even if you have money, power and you don’t belong to NPP, it’s very dangerous. To me Mr. President, I don’t want it,” Chairman Wontumi told Paul Adom Otchere, host of the show.
