Michael Essien Leaves Azerbaijan side Sabail FK, Pens Emotional Farewell Message To Fans

Former Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has announced his departure from Azerbaijani club Sabail FK.

The midfielder exits the Azerbaijan topflight league after a season and half stint with Sabail FK. He joined the side  after ending his stint with Indonesian club Persib Bandung.

The midfielder took to his social media account to announce his departure:

“It’s been a great pleasure until we meet again; stay strong and safe.”

The 37 year old legendary midfielder joined the Azerbaijan side in the 2018/2019 season where he made just 4 appearances and 10 appearances in the 2019/2020 season before footballing activities were brought to a standstill by the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.

Sabail FK was the 9th club Michael Essien had had stinks with since beginning his professional career. Among the clubs are Liberty Professionals SC (Ghana), Bastia and Olympique Lyonnaise (France), Chelsea (England), Real Madrid (Spain), AC Milan (Italy), Panathinaikos (Greece), Persib Bandung (Indonesia).

Despite playing active football, Michael Essien has successfully acquired his UEFA B badges two years ago and is expected to take up a coaching role soon.
