FrimpongBlack Stars coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has revealed how he switched through religions as a youngster trying to console himself after the death of his father.
The former Black Stars captain disclosed his journey to becoming a footballer wasn’t rosy following the death of his father, who had wanted to see him live the dream.
Akonnor had to find solace in religion, but he flipped through Islam and Christianity with his family thinking he was going crazy.
“At a point in time I was a very serious Muslim, I was praying,” he told Sportsnetgh in an exclusive interview. “My family thought I was crazy,” he added.
“Then after a month or so I started preaching. I joined a church, at dawn I will pray and we will go around Town preaching and I was the one that will be writing the quotations like Mathew chapter 24,” he smiled.
He continued:”So my foundation is really spiritual. And so I used to preach until one day one of my aunties got up at dawn and saw me. She yelled and felt I was going crazy.
“Because there were times they saw me practicing Islamic religion and the next time I am preaching so It was crazy but I was going through a lot of emotions after my Dad’s death.
The 46-year old accomplished his dream of becoming a footballer, captaining the Black Stars and he is coach of the senior national team.
