The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has praised Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), for his exemplary leadership in overseeing the December 7 General Election.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Sunday, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, lauded the IGP and the Election Security Task Force for their commitment to maintaining peace and order during the electoral process.

“IGP Dampare, we will continue to commend you and your team for the yeoman’s job you have done,” Mr. Gyamfi remarked. He, however, emphasized that the security team’s work was not yet complete, as the collation of results was still underway.

Despite the commendations, Mr. Gyamfi expressed concerns over alleged interference in the process by individuals linked to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and their collaborators within the military. He claimed discrepancies between the proceedings at some collation centers and earlier assurances provided by the IGP and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).

“What we are witnessing at certain constituency collation centers is not in line with the commitments made by the IGP and the CDS,” Mr. Gyamfi alleged. He maintained confidence in the IGP, stating, “We know you are not a party to what is happening,” and urged security agencies to uphold the integrity of the process.

The NDC also called on its supporters to remain calm and exercise patience as the Electoral Commission (EC) finalizes the results.

Mr. Gyamfi expressed optimism about the party’s performance, citing provisional data indicating a victory for former President John Dramani Mahama in the presidential race and the NDC’s projected control of 187 parliamentary seats.

The NDC’s address underscores the importance of transparency and vigilance during the final stages of the electoral process, as the nation awaits the official declaration of results.
