NDC MPs Ready to Uphold Legislative Duties Amid Parliamentary Tensions

Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, has emphasized the readiness of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament to resume their parliamentary duties if called upon by Speaker Alban Bagbin.

Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM on October 23 monitored by adwoaadubianews.com, Ayariga underscored the NDC’s commitment to ensuring the smooth functioning of Parliament, despite the recent political tensions that led to an indefinite adjournment.

The suspension of parliamentary proceedings on October 22 followed a heated exchange between the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the majority’s control of the House. Ayariga explained that while there are ongoing disagreements, particularly over NPP’s underrepresentation during the session, the NDC remains focused on fulfilling its legislative responsibilities. He accused the NPP, with fewer than 30 MPs present, of disrupting proceedings as part of a coordinated strategy.

Regardless of these divisions, Ayariga assured that the NDC MPs are prepared to return to the Chamber and carry out their duties when recalled by the Speaker. He reiterated that the party would respect the Speaker’s authority, stating, “Anytime the Speaker calls us, we will come, and anytime the Speaker says we are the Minority, we will listen to him.”

Ayariga’s comments reflect the NDC’s determination to prioritize parliamentary business over political disputes, ensuring that governance and legislative processes continue without further disruption.
