FrimpongThe main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) intends creating a sense of insecurity in some swing regions in Ghana during the 7 December 2020 polls, the Majority in Parliament has alleged.
Speaking to the parliamentary press corps on Tuesday, 3 November 2020, the Vice-Chairman of the Defence and Interior Committee, Mr Collins Owusu Amankwah, said his “reliable sources” and the “intelligence I’ve gathered” indicate that “the NDC wants to block certain roads within swing regions in the country and also to create a sense of insecurity, especially in the minds of invited observers, including international observers, that the election was rigged or was compromised and that is their agenda as we speak”.
“As we speak, according to their plans, they’ve kept in touch with some retired security operatives to create tension on the election day”, the MP alleged.
“So, I’m calling on the security agencies to be on guard”, he urged.
He added: “They should monitor their activities very closely”.
According to him, the Akufo-Addo government intends to ensure that Ghanaians vote in a secure, free and fair atmosphere.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the current administration remains focused to provide peace and security for the good people of this country. And therefore, we are not going to sit down for any group of people to disturb the peace of this country”.
