NDC’s running mate for John Dramani Mahama, Prof Jane Naana Opoku has defeated Ghana’s vice president Dr. Bawumia in her first polls going head to head with him.

The former Minister of Education was announced few days ago as running mate to help compete the opposition ruling party NPP in aid of bringing back John Mahama to power. Her appointment has generated lots of mixed reactions from the public and mainly social commentators.

On a poll cited by Harrygraphic on Nhyira FM’s page, the current NDC running mate matched Dr. Bawumia in an over 55,000 votes tally. The results below show a massive accumulation of votes which translates into 58% for the woman and 42% for the NPP running mate.

Earlier Monday, it was reported that feminist activists launched the #Babes4Jane campaign to help promote women in politics. Her portfolio as former education minister diverts the idea of having an economist who can’t manage the cedi as a vice president. Despite leading the economic management team if elected, Bernard Avle of Citi FM downplayed any difficulties she might face. “At the top, is more of tactical and strategic decisions as compared to the Operational parts. This makes it easier for her as an educationist.

Can the NDC make these social media polls realistic coming December? Don’t forget John Mahama has also defeated Nana Addo in 3 polls conducted by Joy news, TV3 and GHOne TV.
