The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accepted President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the flag bearer of the party for Election 2020.

The Party announced an acclamation to soon declare him as the flag bearer of the party. General Secretary of the party, Mr John Boadu, told the media this after a National Council meeting of the party Wednesday night [June 3, 2020].

Me Boadu said the National Vetting Committee of the party reported to the National Council that at the close of nomination, it was only President Akufo-Addo who had filed to contest as the flag bearer of the party.

“The National Council has accepted the report and in due time the President will be declared as the flag bearer by popular acclamation.”

The National Council of the NPP on Wednesday met to trash out the details of the outstanding parliamentary primaries in 168 constituencies where it has sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) as well as the issue of the flagbearer and the running mate.

NPP SETTLES ON JUNE 20 TO HOLD PARLIAMENTARY PRIMARIES

The NPP has scheduled June 20, 2020, to hold its Parliamentary Primaries in the 168 Constituencies where the Party has sitting MPs to elect its Parliamentary Candidates for the 2020 General Elections.

The Party has also resolved to acclaim the sole candidate who had filed his nomination to contest in the Presidential Primaries, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as the Party’s 2020 Presidential Candidate.

These critical decisions were taken by the party at a National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council meetings jointly held on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

The date for the acclamation of the Presidential Candidate and his Running Mate will soon be communicated to the general public. Equally, the Party will soon issue guidelines for the conduct of the Parliamentary Primaries.

Thank you.

John Boadu
