FrimpongA former Minister for Communications, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has questioned the relevance of launching the COVID-19 tracker app when its full component is not ready to be used by all Ghanaians.
The government on Monday launched the tracker App, which among other things will trace contacts of persons infected by the virus through various telephone related data to link such persons to health professionals.
The App was launched concurrently with a virtual concert where some musicians such as Dancehall Artiste, Shatta Wale, Kuame Eugene, Fancy Gadam, Nicholas Omane Acheampong, among many others, took turns to give thrilling performances to mark the launch of what Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia describes as a ‘weapon’ in Ghana’s COVID-19 fight.
The launch and its associated concert has been described as an ‘unnecessary’ fanfare by sections of the population, including Dr. Omane Boamah who believes Government perhaps, just wanted to have a virtual concert.
The Minister for Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful while giving the opening address at the launch said the launch is not ready to use by all other phone brands apart from Android users.
Commenting on this on his Twitter page, Dr. Omane Boamah wrote, “Why launch an app that is not ready? If you just wanted a concert say so.”
