In a major breakthrough amidst ongoing post-election unrest, the Ghana Police Service has recovered a stolen Nissan pickup truck belonging to Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West. The recovery comes days after the vehicle was taken during a brazen break-in at her office on December 9, 2024.

The theft occurred amidst heightened tension following the December 7 elections, which saw widespread unrest erupt across the country. Over 100 arrests have been made as part of the police’s response to the violence.

Addressing the media on Thursday, December 12, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service, provided updates on the security crackdown. She emphasized the progress being made in curbing the unrest and ensuring accountability.

“Through an intelligence-led operation, we have successfully recovered the stolen Nissan Pickup vehicle belonging to Honourable Ursula Owusu-Ekuful,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi announced. “This vehicle, taken during the December 9 break-in at her office, is now in the custody of the Dansoman Police. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the theft.”

The police also revealed that an additional 17 suspects had been apprehended in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of arrests related to post-election violence to 123. ACP Ansah-Akrofi reaffirmed the police’s commitment to maintaining order and ensuring justice.

“The Ghana Police Service remains resolute in restoring calm. Our intensified operations will continue until all perpetrators of these disturbances are brought to book,” she stated.

The unrest, characterized by attacks on individuals and properties, has drawn widespread condemnation. The recovery of the vehicle highlights the effectiveness of the police’s intelligence-led strategy amid mounting calls for peace and reconciliation.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, known for her advocacy on security and governance, has yet to comment on the recovery of her vehicle. Meanwhile, the police urge the public to assist with information that could lead to further arrests.

The swift recovery of the vehicle marks a positive development as authorities work to restore stability in the aftermath of the elections.
