President Nana Akufo-Addo has finally reacted to the Captain Smart dismissal saga where it was said that some government officials pressured the CEO of Angel FM to take the broadcast journalist.
Speaking at UCC congregation where a Doctor of philosophy degree in Educational Leadership, he stated that he has always been a fighter of press freedom, individual freedom and media freedom and for that reason can’t allow the press to be suppress under his administration.
He noted that his love for press freedom made the RTI bill which has been passed under his government a possibility despite successive governments shying away from it.
”Indeed I dare say the means to get your voice heard has never been so democratize as now and long may it last”, he stated.
He noted that as someone who has been at the forefront of fighting for press freedom during his early days as a politician there is no way his government will turn his back at that same press.
Obviously the President is of the view that his government isn’t suppressing the press.
