FrimpongMember of Parliament for Kumbungu Constituency, Hon. Ras Mubarak has supported the President’s decision to lift restrictions on movement imposed in parts of the country in the past three weeks.
The decision by the President to impose restrictions on the movement of persons some three weeks ago was aimed at containing the spread of the novel coronavirus in the country.
The move led to health officials in the country aggressively tracking down and testing all persons who may have come into contact with the virus. As of now, 1,042 persons have confirmed positive for the coronavirus while some 99 persons have recovered from the virus. 9 people have however lost their lives to the virus. According to information made available by the Ghana Health Service, all 9 patients who died suffered from underlying health conditions.
The President in a televised address Sunday night however said the country will continue to track and test more persons who may have come into contact with the virus even as the restrictions on movement of persons are lifted.
Many have criticised the President over his decision to lift the restrictions over fears the move may breed more infections but scores more have praised him for taking such a “bold” decision.
One of such appears to be an opposition member and lawmaker for Kumbungu who is commending the President for the decision.
According to Ras Mubarak, the poor in society have suffered the worst impact these past few weeks following the imposition of the lockdown, a move which saw a significant majority of businesses suspend operations.
“Good decision to lift the restrictions. Poor people bore the full brunt of the lockdown and God knows what they’ve been through.
