Diella TekuThe pressure is intensifying on Asante Kotoko’s head coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, as the Porcupine Warriors’ season takes a downward turn. Former Kotoko standout Charles Taylor, a revered figure among the club’s fans, has called for Ogum’s removal, pointing to the club’s third consecutive defeat in the Ghana Premier League as a sign of serious trouble. The recent setbacks leave Kotoko struggling to maintain their status as title contenders, with longtime rivals Hearts of Oak climbing higher on the league table.
In a tightly contested Week 10 match on Sunday, Kotoko suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Bechem United, marking their third loss in as many games after stumbling against Heart of Lions and Legon Cities. This streak has seen them slip to sixth place on the league log with only 15 points, raising concerns among fans who have watched the team’s decline from early-season form.
Reacting to the loss, Charles Taylor expressed frustration, urging the club’s management to take swift action. “Kotoko isn’t just any team; this club has a legacy to protect, and right now, the current form is nowhere near good enough,” Taylor stated. “The lack of cohesion and quality on the pitch is alarming. Losing three matches in a row is a red flag for any team with championship ambitions.”
Taylor, who was a key player for Kotoko during his tenure, did not hold back on his critique of the club’s current state. He voiced concerns not only about the results but also about the team’s style of play under Ogum’s leadership. “The way they’re playing now, I don’t recognize this as the Kotoko I once played for. It’s time for a new direction; we need someone who can inspire these players to perform at their best,” he added.
This downturn has highlighted flaws that plagued Kotoko’s performance last season, and fans are now questioning whether Ogum’s tactics can truly elevate the club. With Kotoko out of the top four for the first time this season, supporters and club veterans alike are demanding a turnaround, fearing the club might fall further behind in the title race.
