Sarkodie has reacted to reports that he ‘stole’ the key verse from legendary Highlife musician, George Darko‘s “Odo Colour” song to make his “Coachella” track which features Kwesi Arthur.
Rapper Sarkodie released ‘Coachella’ track featuring Kwesi Arthur from his upcoming album and many were quick to notice that the BET award winner sampled the key verse from George Darko’s “Odo Colour” to better the song.
Many music enthusiasts took the rapper on for using the popular line without the permission of the rightful owner of the song, George Darko.
Reacting to claims that he has stolen the key verse from Geroge Darko without permission, Sarkodie in an exclusive interview with Giovani Caleb on 3FM noted that he went through the right sampling process before adding those lines to his “Coachella” song.
According to Sarkodie, he sought permission from George Darko and this brilliant move would have no implications as all requirements have been satisfied.
Sarkodie said;
“You have to seek the consent of whoever owns the right to the music. that is the same way that I would like to be treated. Even when I am old or gone, I would want my Titi and MJ to get some credit or revenue from people trying to use my work.”
He continued that;
“And that is exactly what we did with Odo Colour. Big shouts to Daddy George Darko for making it smooth for us. We had a conversation. And he had his credit on as a writer, because that line was written by him. And that is the best way to go about it”.
