Students Denied Teaching Over Closed Building in Ga South Municipality 46

In this political season when everyone wants to be seen and heard, the pupils of Galilee M/A Basic School have been saddened by the occurrence of today as they went to school and met closed doors.

The school found in Ga South Municipality was locked by contractors who put up the new six-unit block over unpaid debts and arrears the government owns the Geo’s Anointing Company Limited.

It was a distasteful and backward scene for the country as about 1000 school children were left stranded at their school premises. These future leaders prepared for school but were denied tuition because new padlocks had been used to lock up the doors of all the classrooms.

Newsmen confronted the Public Relations Officer for Geo’s Anointing Company Limited, Mr Christopher Newman who revealed the government’s inability to settle debts.

“We began the project in 2017 and completed it in 2019, but till now, we have not been fully paid. This prolonged payment forced us to lock the classrooms”, he asserted.

The company that feels ignored by the actions of the government got hope of being paid hours after locking the school.

“The Member of Parliament, Mr Sylevster Mensah, and Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Joseph Stephen Nyarni, both have reached out to us and promised to make payment within 2 weeks. If they fail to honour the ultimatum, we will lock the school again”, Mr Christopher hinted.

Some worried students who spoke with adwoaadubianews.com begged President Nana Addo Dankwah to pay the owing debts so that they could enjoy uninterrupted lessons.

The academic progress of the students in Galilee M/A Primary School is still hanged until the government settles Geo’s Anointing Company Limited.
