It appears residents of Takoradi have devised a simple yet better way of dealing with thieves after they are caught. They have moved away from the customary lynching of thieves completely.
This was why a thief caught some days ago was made to laugh heartily and asked to dance and sing to thrill residents after the stolen items were retrieved.
Well, a thief who was caught again, a notorious one, of course, was served beer and forced to distil the gutter in the entire town.
Wow! That’s a nice way of getting people to help clean the environment…with some beer to spare, it was some kinda “Work and Happiness”.
According to a report by Adomonline.com, the mid-adult was apprehended after the residents monitored his movement and caught him with a bunch of plantain and some car parts, after frolicking the area for days, they said.
After he failed to identify the owner of the items, the residents tied a rope around his waist and paraded him in the area.
A volunteer group for sanitation made him distil the choked and smelly gutters while supervising him.
After the communal labour, some residents shaved a cross sign in his hair, as a symbol of repentance from thievery.
Exhausted and sweaty as he was, the Takoradi inhabitants gave him the last, yet enjoyable punishment. He was served with chilled beer and ordered to unleash all his dance moves.
He was later marched to the police station…
