The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has unveiled its list of polling stations for the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, sparking heated debates between the commission and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). According to a statement issued on October 10 by Samuel Tetteh, the EC’s Deputy Chairman in Charge of Operations, a total of 40,647 main polling stations have been established, with 328 specifically designated for special voting.
The announcement followed a communique released on October 9 detailing the EC’s plans to print notices of poll and ballot papers. However, the NDC quickly voiced strong opposition, demanding transparency in the ballot printing process. During a tense meeting with other political parties on October 10, the NDC requested detailed ballot statistics ahead of the printing. The EC, however, directed them to verify those details directly with the printing houses contracted for the task, leading to further frustration within the opposition.
To address the mounting concerns, the EC released a statement on October 11 clarifying that only the printing of the notice of poll is commencing, not the ballot papers, in an effort to quell rumors of irregularities.
