Diella TekuA devastating fire at Atonsu Bokuro in the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti Region has left one person dead and several properties in ruins. The incident occurred on Monday, November 18, at around 8:30 a.m., engulfing about nine rooms and causing extensive damage to personal belongings.
The victim, identified as 17-year-old Jerry, tragically lost his life in the blaze. According to reports, Jerry was asleep in one of the rooms when the fire started, leaving him unable to escape.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly and managed to bring the fire under control, preventing further destruction. However, Asokwa Municipal Fire Commander Bernard Nyemi-Tei highlighted that the rescue operation was hampered by challenges in accessing the affected building.
Emergency responders worked alongside the Ghana Police Service, who have since transported Jerry’s remains to the morgue for further investigation.
Residents have been left in shock and mourning, while many who lost their homes and belongings are now seeking assistance to recover from the tragedy. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, with the GNFS expected to conduct a thorough investigation.
The incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of fire safety measures and preparedness in residential areas. Authorities have urged the public to ensure safe electrical installations and maintain fire precautions to prevent such disasters in the future.
