Tsortorme D/A Primary School Seeks Urgent Support to Overcome Infrastructure Challenges in Kadjebi District

The Tsortorme D/A Primary School in Ghana’s Kadjebi District urgently needs improved facilities to create a conducive learning environment, as students and teachers grapple with crumbling infrastructure and accessibility issues. Established in 1965, the school now serves 122 students from Kindergarten to Primary Six, yet classes are conducted in a deteriorating bamboo structure at risk of collapse, forcing some classes to be combined due to insufficient space.

Headteacher Daniel Dodzi Tsivanyo expressed concern, saying, “The lack of proper classrooms is hindering my learners’ progress.” He appealed to the Kadjebi District Assembly and local organizations for support in constructing a six-unit classroom block to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.

The school also struggles with a poorly maintained access road, particularly during the rainy season, which prevents teachers from reaching the school and jeopardizes their safety. Mr. Tsivanyo, who got himself recently injured due to the road’s condition, urged authorities to prioritize road improvements for Tsortorme.

Local leader Torgbui James Akpolu highlighted additional hardships, noting that the community’s lack of infrastructure impacts their livelihoods, as poor road conditions lead to significant food spoilage before it reaches markets. He stressed the community’s need for social amenities like electricity, clean water, and proper roads, adding, “We feel forgotten.”

Kadjebi District Chief Executive Wilson Kwami Agbanyo acknowledged the need for improvement and assured that under the District Roads Infrastructure Project (DRIP), road construction is underway in the district.
