FrimpongThe Upper East Regional COVID-19 treatment center has been temporarily closed until new cases are recorded, according to Director-General of the Ghana Health Service(GHS) Dr. Patrick Aboagye.
At a case count of 26 with 2 deaths, all other COVID-19 patients in the Upper East region have recovered from the virus.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Dr. Patrick Aboagye disclosed that the treatment center which is located at the Bolgatanga hospital has been temporarily closed because there are no cases at the facility.
Earlier, the Upper East Regional Director of Health Services Dr. Winfred Ofosu admonished residents in the region to empathize and celebrate with the recovered patients in order to avoid the tendency of stigmatisation.
“Stigmatization against persons with COVID-19 and recovered persons has been a challenge. There are many people particularly in the communities who do not want to associate with these people who have recovered and shun them and even their businesses.
But we continue to tell everybody that these people do no longer have the virus to transmit to other persons. So they are not people we should shun or run away from. They are people we should celebrate as having successfully recovered from this dreadful disease,” he told newsmen.
