VAR Goes Against Liverpool Once Again.

Published

In Liverpool’s match against Sheffield United on Saturday, there was even more Video assistant referee (VAR) controversy, with the mechanism awarding a penalty without actually checking if the incident was a foul or not.

If such a thing was even logistically feasible, Liverpool Football Club would not be sending a Christmas card to VAR.

After the controversy of last weekend’s Merseyside Derby, the technology has inflicted another decision against the Premier League champions in the opening stages of the game against Sheffield United.

Referee Mike Dean had originally deemed Fabinho’s foul on Oli McBurnie to be outside the box but after another look, the VAR, being led by Andre Marriner judged the incident to be inside the area.

A penalty was awarded and Sander Berge converted to put the Blades 1-0 up at Anfield.
