As Ghana celebrated its 68th Independence Day, dancer Lisa Quama captivated the nation by bringing history to life. In a viral video on Tiktok, she meticulously re-enacted the iconic independence declaration speech delivered by Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, in 1957.

Dressed in a traditional smock over a white long-sleeved shirt and an Afro cap—echoing the fashion of the era—Lisa stood on a raised platform resembling the one from which Dr. Nkrumah made his historic proclamation. Word for word, she mimicked his powerful declaration, rekindling the patriotic fervor of that defining moment in Ghana’s history.

Her performance quickly spread across social media, particularly on TikTok, where netizens praised her for her creativity and deep appreciation of Ghana’s history. Many applauded her for using art as a means to educate and inspire the younger generation about the country’s journey to freedom.

Beyond the performance, Lisa expressed profound admiration for Dr. Nkrumah’s legacy. In the caption accompanying her video, she wrote:

“What a man! I honor Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s legacy with gratitude and love, knowing that his sacrifices paved the way for our freedom. His unwavering spirit and relentless fight for Ghana’s independence ignited a flame of hope in our hearts. His dream for a free and united Africa lives on in us… HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY GHANA.”
