The National Chairman for the largest opposition party, The National Democratic Congress Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia popularly known as General Mosquito has said that the first Gentleman of the land The first gentleman of the land Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo is strategically creating fear and panic among the citizens of the Volta Region through the deployment of military and party militias.
The President and some members of his administration have sent troops and battalions to parts of the country that have fewer Akan residents due to under performance deliberately disenfranchising them. The President knowing very well of his lose in the upcoming election is tormenting people from register in the Voters Registration exercise.
Reacting to News of him bussing people to register at Banda in the ongoing exercise, he stated emphatically that the people at the center of the controversy are Ghanaians and are eligible to register and vote at the area
We the NDC are aware of this and we wouldn’t sit idle” this is what he allegedly told the host of Frontline Kwabena Agyapong of Radio Rainbow.
He reacted to the circulating news which he said was just a story fabricated to tarnish his image, that he Mr. Asiedu Nketia sent some people who were non residents of Banda to register.
He made it clear, that those people accused of not being Ghana were all false, they were all citizens of this country who were on their way to register, in order to make them eligible to exercise their franchise. He alleged that, “There have been many reports and video evidence, like the one in this post, of the President’s deployment and discriminatory use of soldiers to target our brothers and sisters in the Volta Region and wherever there are settlements of Voltarians and non-Akans.
The Ex-President and flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress Reacting on the recent happenings through his Facebook account described the situation as unlawful which should not happen in the 21st century.
Executive power must not be used to forment ethnic discrimination and abuse. This is the post the flag bearer of the NDC made;
“Executive power must not be used to foment ethnic discrimination and abuse as is happening under Nana Akufo-Addo”.
“These calculated acts of ‘dehumanisation, disenfranchising Ghanaians and stripping them of their citizenship’ must end”, he insisted.
