His daughter Lieserl died of scarlet fever. His son Eduard developed schizophrenia during his studies to become a medical doctor and was institutionalized. Hans Albert became a professor at UC Berkeley, teaching hydraulic engineering.
Mileva Maric Einstein, Albert Einstein’s wife, wrote in 1936 to famed Swiss psychoanalyst Carl Jung for advice about their younger son Eduard Einstein, diagnosed with schizophrenia. There is no record of Jung responding to Mileva. After Mileva died in 1948, Eduard was essentially abandoned. He spent the rest of his life at the Burghölzli.
