Who is Black Sherif, you ask? He is only the hottest music star in Ghana right now, without a doubt!
His single ‘Second Sermon’, a follow up on ‘First Sermon’ has become the anthem of the streets all over the country and catapulted him to nationwide prominence.
Black Sherif has finally ‘arrived’.
He first made waves with the single ‘Money’ but ‘Second Sermon’ has now brought him the fame and attention he deserves.
The song blew up all over social media with top stars such as Sarkodie, M.anifest and other stars reposting him.
Even international recording artist/producer Jae5 from the UK has made it clear he would love to work with him.
So who is Black Sherif and what has made him the hottest commodity in Ghana since Yaw Tog.
Black Sherif’s real name is Mohammed Ismail Serif and he hails from Konongo.
His professional name, Black Sherif, simply means ‘high born African’.
He explains that Sherif means someone noble or highborn in Islam and Black represents being African.
Black Sherif is 19 years old. He was born on 9th January 2002.
The young rapper as a native of Konongo received his basic education in Konongo.
He later attended Kumasi Academy for his secondary education, completing in 2019.
He is currently studying marketing at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA).
Contrary to how he sings about poverty, Black Sherif does not come from a poor home.
He purposely chose the street life to give him a deeper perspective into how the youth struggle.
Black Sherif told Pure Fm in a recent interview that: “I’m from a very comfortable home. Not super-rich but very comfortable. I have chosen the street life. I’m doing this for myself because my biggest fear is failure.
“I don’t want anything to happen before I wake up and build my life,”
Based on your perspective, this either makes him a dedicated artiste or a phoney. Black Sherif’s entire mantra is that he is in a war against poverty but he’s not even poor!
Black Sherif first came to prominence with the song ‘Cry for Me’ in 2019.
In 2020, he released his first mega hit, ‘Money’.
His breakthrough though came this year, initially with ‘First Sermon’ and then ‘Second Sermon’, which is now the anthem of the streets everywhere you go.
