Why does President Vladimir Putin wears a shiny golden crucifix hanging from his neck and on his bare chest all the time?

There is no real secret to it. In Russian society all baptized men are expected to wear a cross.

Russian men are not particularly flashy. Generally it is looked down upon for Russian men to wear much in the way of jewelry as that is seen as effeminate. However, a wedding ring and a cross are the two exceptions.
